Mortem Astraque - Season 2, Finale

  • American Fork Amphitheater 851 East 700 North American Fork, UT, 84003 United States (map)

Mortem Astraque

The Dark Moon amulet is gone, locked far from Lyonhall’s reach.
But under Mortem Astraque, even peace casts a long shadow.

Forst, Lachlan, and Pryn remain under house arrest, suspended between suspicion and proof. No evidence condemns them, yet the fear of Sealed Magic lingers. Whispers edge through tavern and marketplace: Who truly stole the Fellstar? Who dares to wield forbidden magics? And why does the town’s approved settler roll list five fewer names than the number of souls now calling Lyonhall home?

The Guardians, burdened with a role they never sought, are fraying under the strain while Reeve Alton quietly searches for a better way to keep order. The Bards drown in paper and ink, racing to clear a mountain of paperwork. Rangers move carefully through the wilds, tracing footprints unlike any game they know, though some seem almost human. In the background, the Arcane Oversight Committee speaks of “breakthroughs” they claim are entirely safe, though it is whispered that the King would disapprove of this new step in portal magic. He might disapprove of the Charter in its entirety.

In Fort Lyonhall, safety is a tale people repeat to each other, but few believe. From shifting alliances to footsteps in the trees, every guild feels the slow pull of change. A lion now stands proud at the doors of the Iron Lyon bank, its gaze turned toward Draille proper. Merchants speak in low tones of opportunity. Rumors move faster than the post, whether the letters are opened or not.

This is the shadow of Mortem Astraque and it is growing.

Syr Alowyn attempts to disarm Syr Alaric as he lunges at and attacks Ley after accusing her of being an evil sorcerous.

New to BTG?

Step into the story at your own pace. Whether you’re brand new or a returning adventurer, you’ll find approachable entry points, friendly NPCs, and plenty of low-stakes ways to get involved. No character sheet or costume required; just imagination. If you’re unsure where to begin, look for anyone wearing the carved wooden amulet and ask how you can start your story.

Ley and Clem rush to the stage with an enchanted box - one hopefully strong enough to contain the influence of the Dark Moon Amulet.

AS THE FORT MOVES FORWARD

“They’ll be here before long.”

     “Who’s coming?”

“Not a messenger. Someone important enough to make the Reeve shuffle his whole day around. Might be wise to have your answers straight if they start asking questions, especially after that whole amulet mess.”

“It’s been sent off, thankfully. Safekeeping. And the portals?”

“Oh, the Magi and the Arcane Oversight Committee are swearing up and down they’ve got them under control now. Safe, even. Opened a new one! If that’s true, it changes everything. But I’ve heard the Crown isn’t exactly thrilled about what they’ve been fiddling with.”

“I hear the Frostcrowners are bringing back the Samankin Dance.”

“That’s what they say. Never thought I’d see a proper Frostcrown celebration in my lifetime. Too cold up there, and too far for me to bother visiting… and with all the fighting back home? Forget it. Travel’s a nightmare. Wonder if things have settled?”

“Likely not. Ma sent news of raids along the Losa border. And those footprints outside the Fort aren’t exactly making me sleep easier.”

“Mm. Too straight for deer, too careful to be an accident. Rangers aren’t saying much, but you can see it in their faces. They’re spooked.”

     “And the Guardians?”

“Settled, but still a little upset. Alton’s been trying for other options. Guardians never wanted to be the law, but the Charter makes enforcing anything a real headache.”

“The Charter is a headache. Ledger’s off again, I heard.”

“Five more people here than there are names on the books. Who do you think snuck in? And why? Couldn’t be for those Penny Pies. Bless her heart, but the improved ones are miles better.”

“And that lion at the Iron Lyon?”

“Oh, it’s a proper bank now, all polished and proud. I expect some serious trade coming through. Maybe we’ll even make it through the winter without rationing. Wouldn’t that be a treat?”

“…Speaking of treats, Forst has been hounding anyone with a scrap of parchment. Absolutely mad for letters. Penny’s back in town too, so maybe she can wrangle that mountain of paperwork before it buries the Bards alive.”

“Well, if half of this is true, we’re in for an interesting season; and if the other half’s true, we’d better keep our boots by the door.”

World Walker Earl and Bard Guild Leader Dorian walk together as they attempt to make sense of the night’s chaos.
