FAQ
Rules & Conduct
Code of Conduct
Guests are expected to conduct themselves responsibly at events. We have strict rules regarding consent, harassment, and behavior. We want every guest to have a positive experience at Beyond The Gates events, and those who disrupt or effect guest experiences may be asked to leave.
A detailed outline of our Code of Conduct can be found at the link, or linked at the bottom of the page.
A detailed outline of our Anti-Harassment Policy can be found at the link, or linked at the bottom of the page.
Event Safety
Safety is our first priority at Beyond The Gates. We have a dedicated Operations team with certifications in CPR, first aid, tourniquet application, and blood stopping.
If there is a medical emergency, please find the nearest event staff member so that they may address it immediately.
Combat Restrictions
Our actors may demonstrate combat on the stage, or may perform in choreographed fight sequences in some scenes. Performers receive special training and all fight scenes are monitored for safety.
Guests are not allowed under any circumstances to join or participate in choreographed fight scenes between actors. Guests must maintain a safe distance of at least 6 feet during fight scenes and combat demonstrations.
For rules regarding our Combat Arena, please review the following document found at this link.
Scene Etiquette
While we strive to create an immersive world for guests to dive into, the reality is that Beyond The Gates events are large-scale performances. Please remain respectful of actors and staff members, and follow any directions given.
Scenes can get intense and sometimes include combat. Please keep yourselves several feet away for scenes at a minimum. This allows more guests to view a scene, and ensures both actor and guest safety.
Audience participation is encouraged during some scenes. Wait to be invited by an actor or staff member before participating. Remain respectful when participating in scenes, and be conscious of what you say and do. You may be asked to step away if your behavior is deemed unsafe for the performers or other guests.
Smoking, Vaping, Drugs, and Alcohol
Smoking and Vaping is not allowed within 25 feet of the event at any time.
Illicit substances such as drugs or products containing drugs are not allowed at any BTG event. Prescribed medications with a matching label are allowed.
Outside alcohol is not allowed at any BTG event.

How To BTG
How Events Work
Beyond The Gates is an audience-driven immersive theatre experience. When you enter the event, you’ll be able to meet fantasy characters, participate in a Combat Arena, shop in the Merchant Market, enjoy food and drinks from our Tavern, and catch a show on the stage.
When you enter, expect to be approached by one of our characters. They may ask about your “journey” to their town, or see if you want to help them with a quest. If you enjoy the questing, consider joining up one of our four main Guilds and ranking up in a Specialty.
Events are set up so that you can wander freely, and decide where to go and what to watch at your leisure. Scenes between characters may unfold around you, or you may be able to take classes in magic or dancing. Explore, talk to the Townsfolk, and see if you can immerse yourself in the world of Miscuri.
How To Play
At Beyond The Gates events, there are many ways to “play” the game. Whether you want to spend time perusing the shops, or want to jump fully into quests and guilds, there is a little bit of everything.
The best way to start is to review the welcome packet you will receive at the ticketing table. This will have information on the current story, some tips and tricks for how to play at events, and a map to help you find important locations.
If you want to take a break from characters and the major storyline, you can also catch a Bard show or try your hand at the Combat Arena. You direct your own story at our events, and how you play is up to you.
How To Identify Actors And Staff
Actors can be identified by a round, glowing amulet on their person. This will be in a visible spot, like a necklace, tied to a belt, or pinned to the outside of their costume. The glowing symbols on these amulets represent what guild or group they are associated with in the game.
Event Staff can be identified by their BTG staff vests or shirts.
How To Interact With Actors
When you step into a Beyond The Gates event, the characters will treat you as if you are a visiting World Walker. They will welcome you to their Fort, and likely ask for help or point you in the direction of a potential Guild to join.
The best way to start is to find someone with a glowing amulet, and ask them if there is anything you can help them with. From there, they will set you on your first quest and help you immerse yourself in the world.
What Is A Guild?
A Guild at Beyond The Gates is a group of characters who work together for a particular in-game organization. We have four official Guilds in our game world, and you can become a member of every one. They have a set of tasks during events, and if you complete them, you become recognized as a Guild Member.
Belonging to a Guild allows you to build relationships with fellow guests, as well as improve relationships with certain characters. More information can be found by visiting The Guilds page.
Where Can I Find Information At An Event?
There are many places to find information at an event. When checking in at the ticket table, guests receive a welcome packet that covers the basics of how events work. It also includes a map, and information updating visitors on the most recent story.
For other information, you can look for posters, signs, or talk to actors of staff members. If they can’t answer your question for you, they can point you to someone who can.
What Accommodations Are Available At Events?
Beyond The Gates events strive to be accessible for mobility devices, service animals, and those with other specific accessibility needs. Should you need anything during an event, a member of the Staff Team will be happy to assist you.
Scenes can become intense or combative, and emotions can occasionally run high. If a Beyond the Gates guest ever finds themselves in a situation or scene that they find distressing or traumatic, they are encouraged to excuse themselves from the scene by crossing their fingers above their head and leaving the area.
Beyond the Gates endeavors to have a quiet area available at each event location for use if a guest feels the need to temporarily removal of themselves from active event areas. Guests utilizing this space are always considered to be out of game.
World Walking
What Is A World Walker?
World Walker is a term we use at Beyond The Gates, which we use to refer to our guests. So a World Walker is you! You are the hero of this story, and your decisions dictate what happens at future events. Without our World Walkers, none of this would be possible.
In the game, World Walkers are people who have traveled through a portal to the fantasy world of Miscuri.
Can I Dress Up?
Yes! We love seeing our World Walkers dress up. It isn’t required, but people often enjoy the added immersion of putting on costume pieces. We encourage you to dress in something that will help you feel comfortable and confident at events.
Can I Bring Weapons or Props?
We allow props and weapons as long as they are unsharpened and do not include components that are explosive or create flames.
Weapons and props will be checked at the ticket table, and receive a “peace bonding” zip-tie or tag if necessary to prevent them from being drawn.
Are Animals Allowed?
Animals trained for specific tasks to assist a person with a disability are allowed at BTG events. ESA animals are also allowed, though they must be kept on a non-retractable short or standard length leash. ESA animals must remain leashed at all times while at BTG events.
What Is Trinket Trading?
Trinket Trading refers to bringing small items or objects, to trade with fellow guests, vendors, and characters. It is not required, and not everyone at BTG participates in Trinket Trading. However, it is a fun way to interact with fellow fantasy fans, and collect some memorable little baubles.
Trinket Trading is entirely voluntary. Characters will not trade important props or costume pieces. Trinket Trading is not managed by BTG. Guests accept any and all liability for trades.
Food, drinks, and anything edible is prohibited from Trinket Trading or gifting.
Can I Give Characters Gifts?
Yes! It is up to the actors’ discretion, whether or not they accept gifts. A gift is a wonderful way to show support for your favorite characters.
Food, drinks, and anything edible is prohibited from gifting and Trinket Trading.
